The second largest US oil company Chevron Corp has agreed to buy Atlas Energy so as to access the natural gas. The deal between the Chevron and Atlas is for about $3.2 billion and by acquiring Atlas Chevron can access the Marcellus Shale. The shareholders will gain about $38.25 in cash plus by the units of the Atlas pipeline affiliate and total of $43.34 for a share. Share holders will even gain in the 37% premium for the Monday closing price which Atlas released on Tuesday.

The deal between the two companies is worth for about $4.3 billion which includes debt of the companies. The deal if completed would be the third largest purchase for chevron and the biggest since the year 2005 acquisition of Unocal corp. Atlas has gained one of the premier acreage positions in areas like the Marcellus in Pennsylvania. The cost structure,high quality resource in Marcellus is the reason behind the potential growth of the asset base said the Chevron vice chairman. Chevron investment is more compelled with the Aquitaine due to the proximity of the natural gas which is with Atlas.

The Marcellus Shale holds about 262 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and stretches from Pennsylvanian and Ohio and is there largest US gas field. At the end of the of last year Atlas reported more than 1 trillion cubic feet and controls over 622,000 acres across Marcellus Shale. Earlier this year on Tuesday the company reported a third quarter result which had rose up to 18% equivalent to 118.3 million . The agreement with Atlas and Chevron will be assumed in the month of April which will be $1.7 billion agreement to produce gas.

Two men have been found guilty of illegally making sperm available over the internet.

Ricky Gage, 49, and Nigel Woodforth, 43, from Reading, operated Fertility 1st which made sperm available from anonymous donors without a licence.

The men had denied three counts of procuring sperm illegally under the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act.

They were granted conditional bail but the judge warned them she was considering a prison sentence and fine.

The men will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 24 September.
